The designer has chosen, modified and adapted to the design concept "Rocket", to get something extravagant and never seen.
The Cafe Racer remodeling shows a dynamic, winged design with 3 propulsive struts, sleek shoulders on the tank and a restrained, curved tail, in the slim waist precisely to the lines the handmade bench. The show model is held in a subtle 2-tone paint, which supports the form and speaks for itself.
The prototype was based on a Harley Davidson Sportster. Tank, rear, seat and exhaust have been redesigned by Ian. Speedometer, footpegs, turn signals, tail lights, etc. the designer chose, modified and adapted them to the design concept "Rocket".
The name BAR! STA stands for the master of coffee preparation. It seemed natural to name the Cafe Racer after him.
Since the beginning of the project, the tank, the rear and the seat have been designed for small series production. "A total of 3 years of development - always in addition to the normal workshop business - in the prototype," explains Ian. Something the native Brit knows. As a motorcycle designer, he worked for nearly 20 years in the 2-wheel design at Honda in Germany, Italy and Japan. Ian graduated in Coventry, UK, with a design degree in Transportation Design before moving to Germany. But even before that, the heart of the motorcycling fan was especially for Cafe Racer. A fondness he brought to the BAR! STA in our Mainhattan team. Since 2014 he is part of our 9-member team. "With him, we can implement such projects as the BAR! STA professionally and successfully," says Managing Director Harald.
In addition to some color designs for special paints, the workshop offers a number of modifications, which are assembled according to customer requirements. There is something for every taste: from neo-classic to futuristic-modern to retro-elegance. Each of these exclusive motorcycles gets so by accessory variants and paint his own appearance. "From order you have to expect about 3 months waiting time," says Harald. The price for the individual Cafe Racer is depending on customer requirements in the price from 9,000 € (without painting!) Plus base machine.
Cafe racers have been trendy for years. The interest ties in with the origins of the London cafe racer scene of the 60s. It was still about (at that time illegal) race from Café to Café. From there, the trend spread across England, then Europe and also to America and Australia. Today in the scene the image and appearance of the tags play the main role. Races will only take place as sprint events at the organized events, e.g. in June in Montlhéry, France, or in September at the Glemseck near Stuttgart. At both events, Ian will be driving the BAR! STA for us.
