THE XV-TWIN 1200

Turning a big bad Harley into a sophisticated gentleman is an exercise few renowned builders have succeeded at. Kind of like teaching a cheeseburger lovin’ American how to drink tea the old fashion way, you get the gist.

Nevertheless, this is a riddle Camperdown head wrench, Jeremy “ Jez” Tagand knows how to solve. Is there anything this French man can’t do? Probably, but he sure makes a nice Harley café.

The XV-Twin is the result of when customer and mechanic share a vision so clear, that the finished product could be mistaken for deja-vu by both parties. The donor bike arrived at our Sydney workshop with some home mods, a few tasteful additions by the owner, to steer the vision onto the right path.

Jeremy took over and applied his standard methods to the madness. Keeping to the brief of tough yet tasteful, an homage to his 2015 build, the Gentleman Jim.

Built on the foundation of an XL 1200C, this new addition to the Deus Harley series rolls on chromed wheels, with a chain conversion and some trusty Cobras from Avon — Gotta love that cool snake head!

Holding it together at the front, you’ve got sparkling forks, topped off with a billet-top clamp from the chaps at Fastec UK. Add some Kustom tech levers, a couple of Motone Custom switches, 7 degree chromed clip-ons by Tingate, and your front end is standing strong.

The frame is tied together with a fuel tank from a trusty SR, modified to house the original fuel pump, filler cap and that always nice-to-stare at Motogadget speedo. All of it topped off by a lick of fresh paint from the new kids on the block, Colour Fuel.

Not far from that is the seating area — A café racer inspired tail-piece, with brown leather and integrated blinkers, sitting above a pair of Rear Shocks in aluminium bodies.

Other notable extras include, flashy bits by Roland Sand Designs on the air intake and the break-fluid reservoir, front and rear blinkers from Purpose Built Moto, a custom plate holder with matching chrome bits.

And of course the attention grabber, the exhaust. A two into one system from Bassani, giving this Harley a mighty sound with the help of a plugged in “Fuelpack” from Vince&Hines.
A true head turner for the sophisticated man who likes to wake up the neighbours.
