"Outlaws is a marriage between Frida Kahlo and Elvis Presley… or if Bunuel made a B Motorcycle movie for 50’s drive ins. The main cinematic inspirations were my longtime obsessions with Fellini’s circus films, and Sergio Leone’s epic Spaghetti Westerns. I thought David would be perfect as a rock n’ roll version of “The Man With No Name” played by Clint Eastwood in the “Dollars” trilogy. Other influences were nightmarish 40’s film noirs like ‘Detour’, Evil Knievel, Tod Browning, and the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. I got to mix up all of my great loves.”
"Mexico is a strange and beautiful place that had the right combination of magic and madness. It was the perfect setting for OUTLAWS and became a main character in itself. It also has some of the best crew, talent and artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I’ve dreamt about Mexico almost every night since I left… It’s left a mark on me.”
