Classic and vintage motorbikes are once again at the epicentre of counter-culture. Talk to any of the custom shops and you realise that film-makers, A-list actors (Travolta, McGregor, Cruise, Craig), artists, surfers, designers, skaters, and many professionals seeking escape, are commissioning, buying and riding machines that move them.
After decades of being marketed as rich men's, midlife crisis toys, motocycles (Nortons, Triumphs, Indians, BSAs, Guzzis, Ducatis and vintage Japanese bikes) and the culture that surrounds them are returning to their authentic roots. New boutique custom shops and streetriding outfitters have emerged. In their wake a new wave of sexy- gritty graphic design and art has given the movement its aesthetic stamp and identity. It is this work – from 30 world-class artists – which is documented here. Author Gary Inman (editor of the cult Sideburn magazine) is the expert in the genre. Essential for bike builders and graphic designers on the scene; fascinating for enthusiasts.
